Vast ranches, small towns and big skies in North Weld County offer a different pace of life from the bustle of the nearby cities.
About 90 miles northeast of Denver and 40 miles south of Cheyenne, Wyo., many of the towns were founded to support historic railroads. The area is famously known for the Pawnee National Grassland and the Pawnee Pioneer Trails Scenic and Historic Byway, a 136-mile driving route through eastern Colorado. Along the route, the Pawnee Buttes rise more than 500 feet above the plains.
The towns of Eaton, Ault, Pierce and Nunn are laid out like a string of pearls along Highway 85.Towns like Ault draw treasure hunters with its antique shops, and locals look forward each year to the international food festival. Most of North Weld County’s towns are about 30 minutes from Greeley or Fort Collins, where residents will find major shopping, higher education, and cultural and outdoor amenities.
